Executive Team
Ken Gersing, MD, Chief Clinical Information Services Officer and Founder, Duke Behavioral Health Informatics-MindLinc. Dr. Gersing is the primary designer and domain expert for Duke’s behavioral health EMR, MindLinc, His technical background includes 18 years of experience in medical information systems including the creation of multiple software applications at the University of Washington Medical School, the National Library of Medicine at the National Institute of Health and at Duke University Medical Center. Before becoming a physician Dr. Gersing worked in the software business including Microsoft, and Watts/Silverstein a software and audio/visual production house. Dr Gersing is an assistant professor of psychiatry Duke University Medical Center with primary concentrations of in geriatric depression, mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
Deo Garlock, Executive Director, Duke Behavioral Health Informatics-MindLinc. Mr. Garlock provides executive leadership for the Behavioral Health Informatics Division. Prior to joining Duke in 2004, Mr. Garlock’s background included 10 years as a behavioral health services and rehabilitation center CEO and COO and 10 years in clinical research serving as Vice President for PMO, QM/QI, RM, M&A, and Strategic Planning and Executive Sales Partner for a large Global Contract Research Organization.
Meaningful Use Certification
MindLinc-Duke received the federal government’s “meaningful use” stamp of approval by earning Complete EHR Ambulatory Certification as tested and certified by The Drummond Group. The designation officially enables providers to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
This Complete EHR is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified by Drummond Group, an ONC-ATCB approved to certify any complete or modular EHR both ambulatory and inpatient, in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments. Surescripts Certification
MindLinc-Duke is Surescripts Certified in order to help our customers and their clients and families to:
• Reduce the potential adverse drug events.
• Save time spent managing 1) initial prescription – provides readable script,avoids call-backs, 2) prescription renewals, 3) issues related to formulary, generic substitution, dosage and legibility are reduced
• Improve consumer convenience. Only one trip is needed to the pharmacy to pick up a
prescription rather than one needed to drop it off and another to pick up. Renewal requests
can be expedited in less time.
• Support improved medication adherence. A study by IMS and Walgreens showed an
11 percent increase in prescriptions reaching the pharmacy when e-prescribing was used3.
Massachusetts Standardized Documentation Project (MSDP) Certification
MindLinc is MSDP certified providing assurance to Mental Health and Substance Abuse providers in Massachusetts that MindLinc meets all of the compliance and medical necessity requirements that the MSDP forms provide.
